In my Hollywood era, I spent 5 years scrambling up the entertainment ladder. I worked for free, then made minimum wage, in production, casting, script reading, and literary management. Then in 2014, I finally made it to writer’s assistant.

I was right there — on the verge. A stone throw’s away from my dream of writing for television. 

But during that time, it dawned on me: the most successful people I met…

With dozens of film and television credits to their name…
Who achieved the highest levels of success…
And made Brink trucks worth of money…

They were all unhappy.  

The realization made me reconsider my choices. It forced me think: was it something about this business, this city? Did I need to live in LA? What if I could live anywhere? Would that freedom fix whatever was broken here?

Once this idea crawled into my head, I couldn’t get it out.

So I paused my Hollywood career to pursue this “remote work” thing. I gave up my dream job, left Los Angeles, and took a full remote role.

10 years, 5 cities, 4 jobs, and 3 kids later… 

Did it pay off? Was giving up a Hollywood career worth it?

To be honest, who knows? Life is long.

But by fate or by virtue, I’ve been happy for a long time. And I firmly believe: 

Remote work is a key ingredient to that happiness.

Now I teach others how to land a remote job, go remote, and build their own dream life. 

When I’m not working on that, I’m a growth product manager at climate tech start-up, Persefoni.
